Beyond the trail

Skoura M’Daz and its surroundings

In Boulemane Province, Fès-Meknès, Skoura M’Daz lies at the foot of Tichoukt in Morocco’s eastern Middle Atlas. The Guigou valley, orchards and terraced fields form a rural landscape to explore on foot.

Villages, olive groves and local life

Traditional earth-built houses and olive trees

Taferdoust and Taghrout offer an introduction to traditional homes and villages set among the hills. Taroussi and Ich n Akki are also associated with old olive groves. Ask about the Bouassem market, listed by Anejdi as taking place on Wednesdays; confirm current arrangements with Rachid.

The landscapes of Tichoukt

Hikers and mountain landscapes — retouched photograph

Walks reveal varied vegetation: fruit trees near villages, rosemary and junipers on the slopes, then holm oaks and cedars higher up. These changing habitats offer a different view of the landscape as you climb.

El Mers: culture and geology

El Mers extends the journey into Aït Seghrouchen country. Anejdi describes Amazigh traditions, craft heritage and dinosaur-related sites in the area. Possible visits are agreed according to access and available time.
